Trends are always a controversial and trivial topic to write about, especially when it comes to fashion.

In 2010, there will be many news threads making its way into our clothing stores, some will be loved, some barely acknowledged, and others hated.

It is very hard to pick what will be hot when it is not there yet, however, I am going to go out on a limb and make a bold prediction for the year.

I propose that trench coats will make a return to the ‘in’ list in 2010.

Yes, I know what you are thinking; how the hell can you say that when no one has worn them for at least five years?

Well, there is my answer. Trends come and go, and it is usually a five to ten year cycle in which they resurface.

Trench coats were huge back in the early naughties, but largely by Gothic’s and punk rockers.

Now, I believe, is the time for corporates and street lovers to embrace the styles and designs of trench coats around the world.

Yes, they are only marketable in one season of the year, but that only makes it more lovable as you only get to wear it for a short amount of time, hence the novelty never dies off.

While they have been lurking on the fringes of fashion shows in the past decade, I really do believe 2010 will be the year the trench coat makes a comeback to the fashion world.
