With the change in seasons there is a change in women’s wardrobes, not just in the types of clothing they wear; heavy jumpers for winter and dresses for summer. As each season comes around there are new trends to follow, new items to try on and new accessories to be found. The one thing that seems to be some sort of constant in a woman’s life is her hair.

We may cut and shape out hair in different ways but be honest when was the last time you tried a new a new hairstyle, a different way of putting up your hair for a night out or tried to recreate that gorgeous look you saw on the catwalk? For most women it was a long time ago, we have certain styles we know how to do and do them so well they are a second nature. But ask us to try to do something different with our hair and we’ll just look at you blankly and wonder how on earth we are expected to master that complicated look.

Believe it or not hair fashions change just as much as clothing trends and if you want to keep up with the latest looks you have to include your locks in your updated outfit. While all this may sound a little too much out of the average woman’s reach there is help at hand, from an unsurprising corner. We have always relied upon our trusty ghds to give us super straight hair as well as the occasional curl or flick but they have set aside part of their website to show you how to create those perfect looks and keep up with hair trends.

With everything from how to get that versatile short haired look the celebs are drooling over or creating the bouncing waves of a princess to be, the ghd hairstyles Australia page on the official ghd Australia website, shows you not only the hottest new looks but rather helpfully how to recreate them. So there is no excuse to stay with that same old pull up for each occasion, get online and start experimenting today.

We’re all talking about how much style and glamour the event brings to Australia’s fashion capital, the international and national exposure we will be getting, the designers and of course the clothes – who can forget the clothes. Also the models, can’t forget the models either.

But let’s digress a little. Oh don’t pout, read on and I promise I will make up for it. By the end of this article I’ll let you in on what’s coming our way from Paris.

Many view fashion as a luxury; something we want but that is largely expensive. That’s not necessarily the case. I’ve been a student for the past three years (which naturally translates to “I’ve been close to broke the past three years”) and have realised that you don’t have to live off 2minute noodles to dress great.

I have a little proposition. How about this autumn we redefine fashion, into what it is meant to be; a mode of self-expression. This season let’s invest in a handful of key pieces and work our existing wardrobe, and in turn ourselves, into them.

As generic as this may sound, it is crucial to invest in a few key pieces that will see you through the season. Let’s start with what to expect this autumn. Double breasted coats or aviator jackets are a must have and will keep you cosy on those chilly nights. Layer a loose kimono style top with a chunky cardigan, bring it together with a pair of your super skinny jeans or leather tights and you’re set no matter what the weather. Make sure there’s detail to your outfit with bold jewellery and sequins. Finish off your outfit with a pair of chunky boots with knee high socks, and a floppy hat if it’s not too windy. Mix and match the basics with what you already have and you will create an autumn style all your own.

Now as promised, a good friend of mine just got back from Paris with news of fashion trends that will surely make their way to Australia in the coming months. The French are reliving the 70’s with plaid skirts, frilly blouses and flared pants. Wool tops and dresses are bound to come in handy for those crazy Melbourne weather days and as for shoes – biker boots are back.

Lukegan likes to compare its flip wallets to that of the ideal girlfriend – They are sexy, the ideal size and shape, they are 100 per cent real, they hold up to eight credit cards, as much money as you can throw at them and, most importantly, the swing both ways!

While they are spot on with the analogy, there are many other descriptive words that could be used to describe the new design in unisex wallets: classy, unique, smooth, smart, elegant, sexy and of course innovative.

What Lukegan has done is make everyday life that little bit easier thanks to a simple, but ultra classy wallet design.

For those of you who are new to the concept of flip wallets, the principle is simple: you have two rectangular pieces of leather held together with in-built elastics.

Credit cards can slot into each side of the wallet, while money can be held in between them.

The best part about the Lukegan flip wallet is that it eliminates what we hate about normal wallets - the hassle of loose change, the annoying bulgy sizes and the inconvenience of misplacing items within them.

However, as is the case with most classy designs when they begin to gain popularity, the flip wallet has been a victim of its own success with many mock versions and cheap imitations of the wallets being sold around the world.

They vary from promotional giveaways, to boutique brands trying to match the quality delivered by Lukegan.

Unfortunately, they all fail to do so, but fortunately for us we still have the comfort of knowing Lukegan flip wallets are still on the market, and knowing that they are still providing us with the highest quality hand-stitched leather flip-wallets available today.

For more information on the flip wallet design, or on how to buy one, check out the website www.lukegan.com

The Alan Border Medal is not quite at the high levels of the Brownlow when it comes to prestige award nights, but it is getting there fairly quickly.

With only a few years under its belt, the night is fast becoming a time to show off girlfriends, flashy designs, and of course, revealing outfits.

Last night was no exception with a plethora of interesting and head turning moments on the red carpet.

In comparison to last year when Mitchell Johnson’s partner Jessica Bratich showed up with a highly talked about colorful dress, last night she chose a more conservative look to guard against the possibility of another wardrobe malfunction.

The West Australian WAG hit the red carpet tonight wearing another Ruth Tarvydas creation, but this time it was neither slutty nor revealing, and definitely earned the respect of the fashion critics there on the night.

This year, it was the wife of Nathan Bracken who turned heads with her entirely see-through gown with strategically placed floral embroidery.

The dress Bracken wore also boasted a massive train, crazy floral print, multiple colours and shining embellishments and it definitely got her the attention she wanted.

As expected, glamour girl Lara Bingle turned heads with her fiancé Michael Clarke, and chose a sexy yet simplistic white gown that showed off her figure and tan beautifully.

Victoria Beckham has finally launched her new collection at the New York Fashion Week and so far so good for the former Spice Girl.

In what is her fourth collection to date, Sundays display revealed a beautiful mix of colours – burnt oranges, teals and electric purple which were set alongside shimmering metallic’s and nudes.

In typical Beckham style the models wore big sunglasses, skyscraper heels and all had slender bodies.

However, the lady of the moment decided to take a more causal approach to the launch, and wore grey skinny jeans, a glamorous fur and a pair of towering platform ankle boots.

After the impressive display of her collection, Beck’s then went on to reveal her plans to open her own clothing store within the next five years.

In contrast to her previous collections, the 35 year-old mother of three decided to steer clear of the form-fitting dresses and opted instead for softer silhouettes, incorporating cowl necklines and feminine draping.

Fashion Editor Didi Danso was full of praise for the new player in the fashion world, giving her the following accolade:

“She has taken into account all body shapes. Believe it or not, her clothes aren’t just for skinny minnies.

“A black skater-style dress with full skirt and waistband would definitely disguise a pear shape. And her use of corsetry – some of it concealed – ensures that curvier ladies will look great in her designs too.

“This line was elegant yet wearable, offering a dress for every occasion – from slouchy sweater dresses ideal for the day to red carpet-sweeping evening gowns.”

A tragic day for the fashion world with the passing away of British designer Alexander McQueen, after her was found dead in his home on Thursday.

His death comes only days after posting anguished online remarks about the death of his mother.

While there has been some talk about it being a possible suicide, there has been no confirmation by police and close authorities have already said on numerous occasions there are no suspicious grounds to the 40 year-olds death.

In regards to his clothes, McQueen designs were sexy and distinctive, dramatic and different, perfect for red-carpet presentations and late-night rock gatherings.

His catwalk events were always full of excitement and energy, and we will always remember his adventurous attitude.

On one occasion he sent out featured models with head-wear made of trash. On another he showed off 10-inch heels shaped like lobster claws.

The talented, bearded man had a career full of awards and accolades within the industry, and it was no surprise celebrities like Madonna, Lady Gaga and Naomi Campbell loved being by his side.

He was named British Fashion Designer of the Year on four occasions and quickly earned a reputation for his innovation and creative fashion sense.

One of his most recent collections, shown in October in Paris, featured elaborate and highly structured cocktail dresses.

Critics have raved about the talented designer for years, and it seems that the industry will sorely miss the creative mind of Alexander McQueen.

The L’Oreal Melbourne Fashion Festival held its official program launch at Federation Square yesterday, much to the delight of fashion followers around the state.

Under the hot summer sun, models took to the black carpet catwalk, showing off next season’s hottest fashion trends.

The who’s who of the cities fashion world turned up to the launch event, and so too did Melbourne’s Lord Mayor, Robert Doyle, who was impressed with what he saw.

”We are a chic, we are a cool city,” he said.

Once again, he took the opportunity to promote his new vision for the state, saying fashion would play an important role in the recreation of Swanston Street.

Mr. Doyle was also joined by Deputy Premier Rob Hulls, who has been attending the festival every year for the past decade.

”I have a very close association with the fashion festival,” he said.

A stack of international designers will make their way to our shores over the next month, including Calvin Klein’s Francisco Costa and former Hermes chairman and chief executive Christian Blanckaert.

As usual, Australian biggest fashion industry icons and emerging designers will also be there.

The good news for the punters is that all of the festival events at Federation Square, including catwalk parades, will be free.

Emerging talent, established designers and chain stores catering for every budget will showcase new collections in parades at Federation Square, Central Pier at Docklands and Malvern Town Hall.

The festival runs from March 14 to 21, with tickets through Ticketmaster.

Summer is the season for shirts, shorts and thongs. While thongs and shorts are great ways of complementing an outfit, they do not really dictate the entire get-up, and therefore it is essential to have expressive shirts that really make the outfit you are wearing.

One store that believes in this theory is the T-Bar in Australia.

T-Bar believes the T-Shirt is the most dominant form of personal expression and that individualistic, style-driven, high quality T-Shirts are essential in this day and age.

The store regularly injects new styles and flavours in to the fashion industry, and one of their best ideas is to maintain individuality.

The T-Bar has a policy whereby no particular design can have more than 50 cuts nationwide. This reduces the chance of seeing someone else with your shirt on, and increases the individuality aspect of clothing.

To spread the creative vibe and the idea that art and design can be worn, the T-Bar also invites local and international artists to create their very own T-Bar designs.

There are frequent guests artists and numerous one of designs by random student designers.

The T-Bar franchise has 14 stores across Australia and one in Singapore, and the chain really has an underground cult feel to it.

They do not advertise and are solely driven by word of mouth.

The T-Bar really is a must see store for all the t-shirt lovers across the world, and with no shirt more than $40, they are also a bargain deal.

Those big, black, stripy, things are back this year. And no, I don’t mean giraffes; I’m talking about the shoe accessories known largely as Gladiator Sandals.

Gladiator sandals are those sandals that look more like an accessory a prostitute might wear, rather than a summer time relaxing style of footwear.

If you had the guts to wear them last summer you better have the guts to wear them again this summer because there is word the fashion world expects them to become an even bigger hit this year.

The only difference from last season’s releases is that they will be taller and fringed in 2010.

So far this year they have been seen them used in a bunch of the spring fashion shows, and have been embraced by designers and experts in the field.

The good thing about Gladiator Sandals is that you can make any outfit interesting with them and if you don’t feel comfortable with the knee high length you can tone it down with the shorter calve length, or bootie length.

The gladiator comes in many styles so you can still wear it the way you want to, and tailor them to most outfits.

Gladiator Sandals retail at a number of selected and boutique stores and range in their prices depending on the designer and quality of the product.
