Milan’s Men’s Fashion Week has kicked off for Spring 2010 and the bright and cheerful colour has certainly hit the runway. This year, like many other years at Mens fashion week the designers attempted to re-do a three-piece suit/cardigan/denim and leather and the labels have certainly stuck to what’s safe.
Most of the labels stuck to the safe staples- pulling out the leather, denim and the hoodie. Jeans and a check shirt, tie and blazer combination hit the catwalk multiple times but with the same old also came some room to explore.
Fashion weeks give designers the opportunity to explore their creative side and D&G saucy Euro collection did just that. They teamed their boys in plenty of leather and denim- this probably not going to help them increase sales but at least they showcased their designer skill.
Armani and Zegna dressed their models in the ultimate modern three-piece, which is significantly different from the rest. Today’s classic three-piece for men included super skinny trousers, top hats and tail coats with cleaver and intricate details. The cheeky over-the-fly trouser flap was a hit with the crowd and one that will be sported on men over the next few months.
Ballantyne were bright and colourful and made an impression on the runway. And why shouldn’t men’s fashion week be about colour and fun. Their collection combined bright coloured shades, resembling the 80’s- from My Little Pony pink to bubblegum and apricot frozen yoghurt jeans.
Along with colour came pattern, and here is where the re-styling of the cardigan and denim factor come in to play. Prada enjoyed playing with depth perception whilst Dirk Bikkembergs went tropical on the jeans front.
The sequenced trench jacket from the always-wearable Armani, even made men think twice before rejecting this trench number. Another jacket variation to Milan fashion was the D&G starburst-studded denim jacket- both of which I’m sure will be seen on the streets worldwide in no time.
