Fashion is synonymous with designer and model, without them the industry wouldn’t be complete. Those interested in fashion would have had one of three dreams- if you can draw- fashion designer, if you can sew- fashion manufacturer and if you have long legs and can pout- a fashion model.

Models are a vital part of the fashion world. Without the outfit tailored to the perfect model, the design is like any pre-made clothing item. The modelling industry have set standards, they have a certain look that each model must have.

Girls throughout Australia are vying to be the best model and have that certain style, and the Australia’s Next Top Model series will give model hopefuls just that.

The fifth Australian series has just begun and is now hosted by Australian model Sarah Murdoch. Murdoch was delighted to be the new host of series, saying it is important to give future models a dose of reality.

The show aims to introduce models to the fashion scene and prepare them for the challenges that come with modelling. Models need to be able to take criticism, and the show certainly gives them the harsh truth.

13 finalists from across Australia will be competing for the title of Australia’s next top model and from there, hope to gain work in the fashion industry.

The best thing about the show it is that provides a window to display Australia’s fashion industry- not just future models, but existing designers, labels and models who have made a name for themselves in fashion.

Australian fashion designer and judge on the show Alex Perry said that the show is about transformation and reality, telling The Age “Many of these girls become incredible, some of them don’t”.

Winners of Australia’s Next Top model will win a 12-month modelling contract with Priscilla’s model management, a contract with cometic brand Maybelline New York, do a photo shoot with Harpers Bazaar magazine and win $20,000.
