To be recognised in the Australian fashion industry you need to have a unique edge. Akira Isogawa’s culture combination and exquisite designs help him to easily fulfil the fashion requirement. Recognised in Australia and internationally, Isogawa has garments that are sought after in every major fashion capital worldwide.

1998 was the year Isogawa began to show off his Spring/Summer collections in Paris and since, presents both Spring/Summer and Autumn/Winter collections to international buyers on a yearly basis.

Although internationally successful, Isogawa still appreciates his Australian routes, maintaining a presence in Australian fashion, showing collections at Australian Fashion week every year. Over the past decade this designer has continued to expand his Australian clientele- the Akira boutique in Sydney dressing some of Australia’s most successful and beautiful women.

Isogawa was named Designer of the Year and Womenswear Designer of the Year at the Australian Fashion Industry Awards in 1999. 2005 was the year Isogawa made a name for himself and received recognition in the Australian fashion industry. This was the year he was honoured by Australia Post- named an Australian Legend- a photographic image appearing on his own commemorative postage stamp. In 2005 he was also awarded Prix De marie claire Best Australian Designer and the following year the Award for Fashion Excellence.

With his long list of awards and glamorous garments to match, Isogawa kept working his way to the top, gaining well-earned recognition. He is well respected in the fashion industry but also the Arts, the first Australian fashion designer to open a fashion and textiles exhibition at the National Gallery of Victoria.

This designer puts his craftsmanship to work, designing garments for his stunning collections but also costumes for many Sydney Dance Company Productions.

Isogawa was born in Kyoto Japan and draws on his cultural heritage for the unique pieces in his collections. Fashion critics have praised the designer, drawing favourable reviews in US Vogue and the New York Times. His collections are available globally at some of the world’s most famous fashion stores.
