With the change in seasons there is a change in women’s wardrobes, not just in the types of clothing they wear; heavy jumpers for winter and dresses for summer. As each season comes around there are new trends to follow, new items to try on and new accessories to be found. The one thing that seems to be some sort of constant in a woman’s life is her hair.

We may cut and shape out hair in different ways but be honest when was the last time you tried a new a new hairstyle, a different way of putting up your hair for a night out or tried to recreate that gorgeous look you saw on the catwalk? For most women it was a long time ago, we have certain styles we know how to do and do them so well they are a second nature. But ask us to try to do something different with our hair and we’ll just look at you blankly and wonder how on earth we are expected to master that complicated look.

Believe it or not hair fashions change just as much as clothing trends and if you want to keep up with the latest looks you have to include your locks in your updated outfit. While all this may sound a little too much out of the average woman’s reach there is help at hand, from an unsurprising corner. We have always relied upon our trusty ghds to give us super straight hair as well as the occasional curl or flick but they have set aside part of their website to show you how to create those perfect looks and keep up with hair trends.

With everything from how to get that versatile short haired look the celebs are drooling over or creating the bouncing waves of a princess to be, the ghd hairstyles Australia page on the official ghd Australia website, shows you not only the hottest new looks but rather helpfully how to recreate them. So there is no excuse to stay with that same old pull up for each occasion, get online and start experimenting today.

Trends are always a controversial and trivial topic to write about, especially when it comes to fashion.

In 2010, there will be many news threads making its way into our clothing stores, some will be loved, some barely acknowledged, and others hated.

It is very hard to pick what will be hot when it is not there yet, however, I am going to go out on a limb and make a bold prediction for the year.

I propose that trench coats will make a return to the ‘in’ list in 2010.

Yes, I know what you are thinking; how the hell can you say that when no one has worn them for at least five years?

Well, there is my answer. Trends come and go, and it is usually a five to ten year cycle in which they resurface.

Trench coats were huge back in the early naughties, but largely by Gothic’s and punk rockers.

Now, I believe, is the time for corporates and street lovers to embrace the styles and designs of trench coats around the world.

Yes, they are only marketable in one season of the year, but that only makes it more lovable as you only get to wear it for a short amount of time, hence the novelty never dies off.

While they have been lurking on the fringes of fashion shows in the past decade, I really do believe 2010 will be the year the trench coat makes a comeback to the fashion world.

It’s been a long decade for the fashion world where many interesting and new trend have come up against some age old stayers.

The naughties have brought many vibrant colours, advanced designs and some complete out of left field pieces.

Newfashion.com.au takes a look at some of the hits and misses in the past ten years.

MISS: Navel gazing
The single worst idea in many decades was the notion that grown women should show off their naked stomachs. Why on earth the belly button is an areas we should be worshiping is beyond me.

MISS; Fluro colours
For some reason designers thought that high visibility colours would be great for the streets. He fad died quite quickly, although you may still find a few people keeping it alive, or at least attempting to.

MISS: Over expensive ‘it’ fashion designs
Clothes that take a months of work to buy is clearly not worth it. Especially when you spill a bottle of red wine over it the first weekend you wear it.

MISS: Skintight anything
Especially skinny jeans.

MISS: Crocs footwear
Crocs are cute on toddlers and good for gardening, not for anything else.

HIT: Vintage and vintage-inspired classics
Just like red wine, they get better with age.

HIT: Hats on men and women
Fashionable and sun smart!

HIT: Wide belts
They work magic for those with a waist.

HIT: Cardigans
Age-old classic which should never die

Face to face presentations are a part of every workplace, and almost every university course.

One of the most thought about things every time you step up to make your speech is not what to say, or how to say it, but rather what you are carrying in your body.

That’s right. While most attention is given to the actual presentation itself, it is often the clothes you wear which will have the biggest effect and most lasting memory on your audience.

There are many theories on what is the right thing to wear and what is the most suitable to were during a presentation.

While there is no real answer to the debate it is important that whatever you choose, you feel comfortable in what you wear.

It is also always good to something that is not too formal, but not too underdressed either. In between is ideal.

For a workplace presentation, a good rule of thumb is to dress a level or two above your position. That way, you’ll be sure to look polished, but you won’t be overly dressy.

At the end of the day it is important that you feel comfortable to be able to give the best execution of the presentations content.

If you feel good, you will speak well.

It’s all about your mood and the way you feel when you present.

Good luck and happy dressing!

The news seems to have finally arrived….. Fake tans are officially out!

Now that the orange glows, and fake mahogany tans, are truly dead in the water there is less desire to show flesh; instead there is a new desire to simply display the natural skin tones of birthright.

For so long people have been trying to hide their natural skin colour behind a disguise of orange, rust looking fake bronze, or fake tan.

It seems, however, that the jury has struck its hammer and come up with a decision that they are no longer socially acceptable in 2010.

Indeed, natural skin is the most acceptable. I’ll use the examples of women like Michelle Obama and Dita Von Teese to illustrate my point.

Both are very different, but each is beautiful and very fashionable in their own skin.
You may have noticed a trend in this year’s publicity shots – all the models are showing their own glowing skin base colour, whatever their race.

Whether pasty white, chocolate, black, pink or yellow, living in your own skin is the biggest fashion trend of all, especially for the upcoming year.

If you are still slathering on fake tan or cremating your body under a sun-bed, then you have not only missed the plot, but the very real fashion trend to be natural.

This trend has grown season by season as tans have been reduced in depth to the barely sun kissed look using daily summer glow skin tanning creams just for beach holidays.

Summer time is a great season to show off some of your favourite colourful items, as well as being able to take a few risks.

The hot weather usually reduces the critics claws, and allows a bit more diversity than usually seen in the colder, winter months.

While many people will focus on what to buy in the next few weeks to ensure they are the top of the ‘cool’ and ’in’ lists over the hot period, there are many items which the public should steer well away from.

People must remember that a lot can change over a year and just because something was hot last year does not necessarily mean it will again this time around.

Here s a list of clothing apparel to stay away from this summer:

Blue Singlets – often referred to as the ‘wife beater’ it did not generate the name for no reason. Draws an association with bogans and drunks and certainly no way to impress the opposite sex this summer.

Long shorts – Or ¾ pants, whichever one you want to use, they are clearly out of style now. Who knows, they could make a come back next year, but for now, it is shorts above the knee which will attract others.

Tight black pants – it summer isn’t the right time to ditch pants, then what is? Especially when they are black, and tight!

Dreadlocks – Finally they appear to be moving out of fashion, but ever so slowly. Unless you’re at the beach, don’t do this to your hair.

Summertime has hit the Southern Hemisphere in the past few weeks, and with it brings a whole new range of clothes for the public.

Winter scarves, jackets, hoodies, cats and boots have been put back into the closets and replaced by shorts, skirts, thongs and lightweight tops and dresses.

The problem with the beginning of each season is that nobody really knows what to wear, what is hot, and more importantly, what is not.

While there are always givens in the industry such as thongs, shorts and t-shirts, there will always be a few gambles for fashion lovers, and trendsetters to take.

This year we welcome a whole new range of garments, styles and clothing styles.

Newfashion.com.au takes a look at some new summer trends, and what not to wear in the hooter months.

Darker colors: Fresh white clothes are still always going to be a safe bet when it comes to choosing colors, however this year darker shades are coming back strongly.

Darker shoes are now the preferred choice, as too darker browns for females and greys for males.

Plain shirts: It seems after decades of eye-catching logos and wonderful designs, we are now going back to the simplest of all styles, the plain shirts.

Not only will you look great in the neutral styles, but you will also save a few bucks on the design free clothes.

Oversized accessories: This trend is still as strong as ever this summer. When it comes to handbags, earrings and jewelery, the bigger, the better!

It seems the times are changing in the foot fashion department, with a strong shift away from the white shoe, and a surge in popularity in the black shoe.

For a long time white shoes were the buyers’ choice with the neutral colour complimenting any style of clothes and giving people that clean, fresh look.

This year, however, we are seeing a shift away from the conventional trend with black shoes being the new ‘in’ thing.

Spring Carnival has come, and is just about to go, and with it came a great look at what is going to be new this summer in regards to fashion.

One trend that was obvious during the past month has been the omission, or cringing, at white shoes worn with formal wear.

Numerous fashion publications, and online sites, have criticised punters for wearing the clean colour, saying it is a fashion trend that has finally been phased out, and long gone.

Either way, people will continue to wear the white shoe regardless of who says it is good or not.

Some of the bad traits of the colour is the common problem of dirt ruining the look.

It is almost near impossible to venture out for a big night without coming home to a darkened and filthy pair of white shoes.

Let’s face it, white shoes are damn hard to keep clean, and when they are not clean they look cheap and dirty.

Black shoes, on the other hand, are easy to keep respectable, and do just as good a job of being complimentary as its opposite colour.

In an age of increasing environmental awareness, it is no surprise to find even our everyday simple accessories becoming more carbon conscious.

But are we seeing a new trend in the hand bag department? Handbags made from solar panels?
I know it sounds distant at this stage, however, with the new trends in energy conservation, solar powered handbags are slowly becoming more of a reality.

The Neuber Energy Sun Bag is one of the first ever handbags that allows people to charge their technological gadgets with them as they bask in the outdoor sun.

Mobile phones, portable media players, handheld consoles and other devices can be charged form the Konarka Power Plastic solar panels on the outside of the bag.

The design is now the lightest solar energy bag on the market and barely troubles the scales, weighing in at a mere 500 grams, including the battery, bag structure and solar panels.

And, if you’re a picky customer, good news. The new bag now comes in a massive 37 colours to cater for almost any customer.

Neuber’s Sun-Bags will be available worldwide, with pricing starting around the $150 mark and going upwards, depending what design you choose.

Obviously the bags will be out of reach for the majority of the world, but in time we could just be seeing a new trend in handbag accessories.

However like all resurgences, tweed has had a bit of a makeover, this season tweed is experiencing something of a fashion moment, restyled and refined by designers and the high street alike.

Think mini skirts, fitted jackets and oversized boyfriend jackets, handbags and even shoes – Jimmy Choo’s Donegal Tweed Boots are selling like hotcakes and Nike has produced a range of Harris Tweed trainers. Like we said it’s going to be everywhere! For males and females.

Designer Sara Berman has created a capsule collection of limited edition Harris Tweed coats for autumn/winter. Originally Harris tweed could only be made using the coarse (read scratchy) local wool and natural Scottish moss, lichin and heather for dye, hence the sludge-y colour palette, today the rules have softened along with the cloth and now you can get bright colours, and even polka dot designs, making it much more modern and wearable.

But it hasn’t all been plain-sailing of late for this hardy woven wool fabric. In the aftermath of the Lockerbie furore, the main manufacturer of Harris tweed has been forced to drop the word ‘Scotland’ from its name for fears of a backlash. Who would have thought this humble fabric could cause such a stir. If anyone tries to tell you that it doesn’t matter what you’re wearing (wherever you are), they’re lying!
