With the change in seasons there is a change in women’s wardrobes, not just in the types of clothing they wear; heavy jumpers for winter and dresses for summer. As each season comes around there are new trends to follow, new items to try on and new accessories to be found. The one thing that seems to be some sort of constant in a woman’s life is her hair.

We may cut and shape out hair in different ways but be honest when was the last time you tried a new a new hairstyle, a different way of putting up your hair for a night out or tried to recreate that gorgeous look you saw on the catwalk? For most women it was a long time ago, we have certain styles we know how to do and do them so well they are a second nature. But ask us to try to do something different with our hair and we’ll just look at you blankly and wonder how on earth we are expected to master that complicated look.

Believe it or not hair fashions change just as much as clothing trends and if you want to keep up with the latest looks you have to include your locks in your updated outfit. While all this may sound a little too much out of the average woman’s reach there is help at hand, from an unsurprising corner. We have always relied upon our trusty ghds to give us super straight hair as well as the occasional curl or flick but they have set aside part of their website to show you how to create those perfect looks and keep up with hair trends.

With everything from how to get that versatile short haired look the celebs are drooling over or creating the bouncing waves of a princess to be, the ghd hairstyles Australia page on the official ghd Australia website, shows you not only the hottest new looks but rather helpfully how to recreate them. So there is no excuse to stay with that same old pull up for each occasion, get online and start experimenting today.

We’re all talking about how much style and glamour the event brings to Australia’s fashion capital, the international and national exposure we will be getting, the designers and of course the clothes – who can forget the clothes. Also the models, can’t forget the models either.

But let’s digress a little. Oh don’t pout, read on and I promise I will make up for it. By the end of this article I’ll let you in on what’s coming our way from Paris.

Many view fashion as a luxury; something we want but that is largely expensive. That’s not necessarily the case. I’ve been a student for the past three years (which naturally translates to “I’ve been close to broke the past three years”) and have realised that you don’t have to live off 2minute noodles to dress great.

I have a little proposition. How about this autumn we redefine fashion, into what it is meant to be; a mode of self-expression. This season let’s invest in a handful of key pieces and work our existing wardrobe, and in turn ourselves, into them.

As generic as this may sound, it is crucial to invest in a few key pieces that will see you through the season. Let’s start with what to expect this autumn. Double breasted coats or aviator jackets are a must have and will keep you cosy on those chilly nights. Layer a loose kimono style top with a chunky cardigan, bring it together with a pair of your super skinny jeans or leather tights and you’re set no matter what the weather. Make sure there’s detail to your outfit with bold jewellery and sequins. Finish off your outfit with a pair of chunky boots with knee high socks, and a floppy hat if it’s not too windy. Mix and match the basics with what you already have and you will create an autumn style all your own.

Now as promised, a good friend of mine just got back from Paris with news of fashion trends that will surely make their way to Australia in the coming months. The French are reliving the 70’s with plaid skirts, frilly blouses and flared pants. Wool tops and dresses are bound to come in handy for those crazy Melbourne weather days and as for shoes – biker boots are back.

Cristiano Ronaldo has finally stamped himself as an underwear pin up model, much to the delight of the females across the world.

But the good news for Ronaldo comes as bad news for LA Galaxy Star David Beckham.

Fashion designer label Armani last week decided to replace the blonde haired Englishmen for the brown haired, Portuguese sensation.

The Real Madrid soccer star will now be the face, and body of the Italian designer label.

New photos from the launch depict the 24 year-old showing off his chiselled abs and defined physique.

Georgio Armani, the brains behind the label, said he was ecstatic of securing Ronaldo as the new male behind the brand.

“Cristiano is a great-looking young man with the perfect physique of an athlete,” he said.

“For me, he is the essence of youth – spontaneous, exciting and a real maverick. It is for his energy that I have chosen Cristiano to become the new face of Armani Jeans and Emporio Armani Underwear – for his youthful, exciting, and, yes, sexy attitude.”

According to Ronaldo, he was just happy to be part of such a well-respected brand.

“Giorgio Armani is a legend in the fashion world and I have long been a fan of his work,” Ronaldo said.

“I am very pleased with the pictures we have done together – they are certainly striking and are full of attitude and a spirit I can relate to.”

The addition of Ronaldo comes just days after actress Megan Fox, who rose to fame with her role in the movie Transformers, was named the new female face of the designer threads.

The inaugural BFC Vogue Designer Fashion Fund will be up for grabs this year with the British Fashion Council announcing a shortlist for the prestigious prize.

The shortlist comprises London Fashion Week women’s wear designers Erdem, Christopher Kane, Marios Schwab, Richard Nicoll and Clements Ribeiro;

In the menswear division, new designer E.Tautz; accessories label Angel Jackson, and shoe designer Nicholas Kirkwood all made the shortlist.

The fund was originally launched in November 2009 and will provide one designer with 200,000 British pounds and high-level mentoring support to build his or her business on the global stage.

The committee will be made up of Marigay McKee, fashion and beauty director at Harrods, who will chair the panel and play an active role in supporting the winner.

Those supporting the fund include the Arcadia Group, Burberry, Condé Nast, Debenhams, Harrods, House of Fraser, HSBC Commercial Bank, Jaeger/ Aquascutum, Marks & Spencer, Paul Smith, Tesco Clothing, Toni&Guy and Westfield.

One of the representatives from organizations funding the prize, Mr. Harold Tillman, said he was very supportive of an initiative he feels is vital to ensuring good business.

“The industry support that we have received for The British Fashion Council’s Vogue Designer Fashion Fund so far has been fantastic but we still have a lot of work to do to ensure a lasting legacy,” she said.

“I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of our funders. I strongly believe this scheme will play a key role in developing businesses in the future”.

Glamour girl Jennifer Hawkins and radio personality Bianca Dye have gone toe-to-toe in the entertainment ring over whose naked pictures are better.

While neither have actually made the claim that they believe they look more attractive than the other without clothes, a debate has opened up on which image is more appropriate for promoting the female body.

It all started when fashion magazine Marie Claire displayed a naked Jennifer Hawkins on their front cover, promoting her as a positive role model for boy image.

While the shot proved to be a hit with the male population, it was far from the case for curvy radio host Dye, who said the image was “just not right”.

“She was born beautiful. She has not had to go through any stress to look like that,” Dye said.

”Jackie Frank is one of the most respected editors in the country and I am in shock that they would say Jennifer Hawkins is a natural role model. Its like we’ve taken 20 steps backwards.”

However, the former Miss Universe winner has since received much support, including the Butterfly Foundation, who deals with anorexic individuals and those with unhealthy diets.

The general manager of the organization, Julie Parker, came to Hawkins defense saying the images have opened up a very important awareness on the issue of females’ body sizes.

“What we’re talking about here is just one small part of the much wider spectrum of body image, self esteem and eating disorder issues and that small part is actually about digital enhancement and retouching of images,” Ms Parker said.

“It’s so excessive in magazines these days and young girls and women are constantly telling us that they don’t even know what they’re looking at any more, and what they want to see is more real, untouched and natural photos of celebrities and people in magazines, and I think this delivers that.”

Some bad news for the fashion world, and in particular budding fashion learners, with confirmation the Charles Darwin University has scrapped a fashion course from their 2010 roster.

Despite many of the courses graduates doing quite well since leaving the university and excelling in the industry.

The move by the Charles Darwin University has outraged many individuals both directly and indirectly affected by the courses cancellation.

23 year-old Nitschke-McGregor has completed the first part-time year of her certificate four in wearable art and is furious the course has been axed.

“I really got a lot from the course,” she said.

“The fact others won’t be able to do it – I think it’s ridiculous.”

It is believed the decision was made after a tight budget for next year was made.

Bill Wade, the associate professor at the School of Creative Arts and Humanities, said that by half way through next year units would be integrated in to the broader visual arts program.

“Despite very positive outcomes for the few students enrolled, fashion design has had declining enrolments since 2006 and our analysis shows that there is not any growth potential in the area without major investment,” he said.

The decision by the Darwin University is a worrying sign for the fashion industry with many believing the axing o the course is a sign of a future trend that may see many other similar curses taken off other institutes agenda due to financial woes.

Breast sizes are continuing to grow and increase in size, mainly due to a combination of poor diet and developments in cosmetic surgery.

Knowing this information, New Zealand Auckland-based bra designer Bendon is launching a new label intended to be the “world’s first larger cup size bra with a focus on fashion, not simply function”.

The brand expects to launch DimitySO, a response to a worldwide trend towards bigger women’s breasts and how to cater for them.

General Manager for the designer label Bendon, Sue Dunmore agreed with the trends and said it was only time their label decided to act on it.

“The average bust size is definitely increasing around the world, particularly with young teens,” Dunmore said.

Retailers’ from around the world have already begun showing interest in the new range of bras and have reportedly been very interested in stocking the new range.

Shop owners have not been the only people to enjoy the new trend, with many publications of websites covering Bendon’s idea and giving them large amounts of publicity.

The brand said the average bra size in Britain was now 36C, compared to 34B a decade ago. In this country, D cups and larger now accounted for nearly half of all the Bendon bras sold.

The new label, for women with a D cup or larger bust size, will be launched next month in New Zealand, the United States, Britain and Australia.

Allen told British Radio 1′s Sara Cox this week that she was planning to take a time-out from music for ‘at least one or two years’ in the hope of pursuing a fashion career.

The 24 year old, who has previously starred in Chanel ads and performed at the label’s most recent fashion show, has had a history of promoting some cutting edge designers and cutting-edge designers and some established luxury brands in the past.

It is believed she now plans on dedicating her time to the boutique side of the industry with her sister.

Allen hopes to open a label called Lucy in Disguise and accompany it with a store that will enable shoppers not only to buy clothes but also to hire or rent them, a concept already existent on some online shopping destinations and upscale vintage shops.

Allen said the idea was about making clothes affordable to the general public.

“It’s about getting really nice clothes but letting people rent them for affordable prices,” she said.

“So they can go out and feel like a million dollars and it won’t cost them a million dollars.”

The idea is part of a growing ‘democratization’ trend in fashion, which has an increasing number of designers taking steps towards widening their reach among the masses.

Allen also plans to launch a record label and test her acting skills during her break. Her last gig before the hiatus will take place alongside rapper Dizzee Rascal at London’s O2 Arena next March.

Australian pin-up girl, Lara Bingle, has launched a bid to become a global fashion icon.

After making a name for herself as the face of Australian tourism in the ‘Where the Bloody Hell are you’ ads, Bingle has had a mixed few years.

After being dumped by Channel Nine for her public misdemeanors, including an alleged affair with AFL star Brendan Fevola, she met with cricketing stud Michael Clark and has since become engaged the future Australian captain.

In a shock move, the 22 year-old left her management team, International Quarterback, to try her luck in the fashion business.

Reportedly on a half a million dollar a year deal with the agency, the move could well end up to a financial disaster.

But despite the risks, Bilge has her heart set on breaking the clothing industry.

Rumour has it that Bingle has been trying to sign a deal with a fashion chain to release her own range of fashion, just like Kate Moss did with Top Shop in the UK.

The whispers, however, were dismissed by Bingle’s new manager, Deb Baker.

“It’s fantasy at this stage,” said Baker who, it’s claimed, was recruited as Bingle’s rep following a recommendation from her close friend.

Despite the defense shown by Bingle and co., the rumours have not surfaced from nowhere.

With the split form her once loyal management, it appears the blonde pin up girl is destined to try her hand as a fashion icon.
